Situation

In September 2018, People Measures was engaged by a major Victorian emergency service to design and co-facilitate a leadership development program focussed on uplifting leadership capability throughout the service. The primary objectives of this project were to:

  • Uplift the people-focused leadership capability of managers and supervisors with a focus on self, others and the workplace;
  • Develop and deliver a people-focused leadership program which is sustainable and provides opportunity for learning to be realised and applied in workplace contexts; and
  • Contribute to an improved workplace culture where employees feel respected, valued and supported.

Action

People Measures worked in partnership with the emergency service and another supplier to design a 3-day workshop.

Throughout 2019, People Measures co-facilitated more than 20 workshops with internal facilitators and helped upskill them to deliver the workshops independently from 2020 onwards. Over 3000 senior staff attended the workshops across every part of Victoria.

In 2023, these workshops continue to be delivered by the internal delivery team, and People Measures remains in a coaching role to the internal facilitators as part of the leadership program’s continuous improvement. People Measures have further been engaged to deliver a series of follow-up 1-day workshops to further embed the learning from the program.

Results

More than 90% of the participants believe the leadership program was relevant to their role as a leader and felt confident they would apply the learning from the workshops in their workplace.

Evaluations of the program have shown that more than 90% of the participants believe the program was relevant to their role as a leader and felt confident they would apply the learning from the workshops in their workplace.

Additionally, nearly 100% of participants felt that the facilitators were knowledgeable and engaging.
